The Coatepeque Lake

The Coatepeque lake is located in the Santa Ana department and is one of the most emblematic and well-known landmarks of El Salvador, more than just a landmark, the Coatepeque lake is a statement of the natural beauty this country has to offer. Created thousands of years ago by a powerful volcanic eruption, this volcanic crater turn lake has around 25.3 Km of surface area and at its deepest, it reaches a depth of around 115 meters, it is surrounded by beautiful lush green forest, as well as luxurious hotels and many restaurants, it is also the home of around 20 thousand resident plus around 5 thousand tourists that visit this spectacular location every month.

Such is the natural beauty of this magnificent lake, that in 2013 it competed for the 8th wonder of the world achieving a well-deserved second place. The Coatepeque lake is one of the most beautiful tourist places you can visit in El Salvador. This lake has a large area where you can practice various sports, in addition to its beauty it has an excellent panoramic view of the Santa Ana volcano and Cerro Verde. on weekends it is common to see lots of tourists and residents having lots of fun on a hot summer day.

As you get closer to this lake you will find yourself at the top of the lake, where you’ll find a lot of different restaurants that give you access to magnificent views of the lake, when you get down to the lake you’ll be greeted with a spectacular view of the lake, down here you’ll find a huge parking lot, as well as beautifully decorated restaurants, although most people come for the great food and spectacular views, there a lot of different activities available at this lake, the best one by fay is to go on a ferry ride, the Ferris themselves have their restaurants, water slides, and music, it is a very fun way to explore this lake and have access to some of the best views this lake has to offer, if you wouold like to go faster there are yet skies rentals available, whetere you are on a yet ski or a ferry, you will have acces to some of the most breathj taking views, the turqoise water surrounded by green mountains and the beaitul blue sky is truly a sight to behold.
