One of the main reasons why you should move to El Salvador is the cost of living, there are many countries you can move to that people suggest as affordable places to live, such as Costa Rica and Panama, however, those two countries have become very popular in recent years and because of that the cost of living for foreign visitors has increased dramatically compared to what it used to be, on the other hand, El Salvador it’s still considered a hidden gem and even though tourist are paying more and more attention to El Salvador for various reasons, it still a very affordable place to live with a rapidly growing economy and lots of business opportunities.

Great Weather

El Salvador’s weather is one of the nicest around 22 and 23 degrees all year round, this is especially true if you compare it to other countries in the same region, if you look at Guatemala for example it might be too cold during winter and if you go down south Panama is way too hot all year round, El Salvador’s weather sits nicely in the middle not too hot and not too cold, although this also depends on where you live and the time of day, in El Salvador it tends to get chilly early in the morning and a little hot at noon, the rest of the day is usually the right temperature. El Salvador’s rainy season goes from May to October and its dry season goes from November to April so if you are planning to visit El Salvador we recommend you do it during the dry season.

Ease of Getting a Residency

To get a permanent Visa in El Salvador you must first get a temporary visa, you must have a specific reason to get this temporary visa, if you are an investor you need to get an F4 temporary visa, if you have business in El Salvador then you need to get an F5 temporary visa and so on, there are over 30 temporary visas to choose from. You get your visa in less than 2 months after starting the process the payment to Migration is less than 300 dollars and it last for a year, the requisites are fairly simple:

  • A copy of your entire passport
  • An application signed by the foreigner or legal representative.
  • Proof of criminal record from your country of origin or where you have resided for the past two years
  • Copy of your income tax return for the past year

After 3 years of having the temporary visa and depending on a few other factors, you may apply for a permanent visa, The requisites are very similar to the temporary Visa.

Therefore, El Salvador represents a prime opportunity to buy property or land for investment purposes. Although, there are some areas where you will find a similar price to the US for example, such as in some fast-food restaurants or fine dining where prices can get a little expensive, generally speaking, life in el Salvador is very inexpensive.

  • A Meal For one at an inexpensive restaurant can cost around $6-7
  • A Three-course Meal for two at a Mid-range restaurant cost around $30.00
  • A meal at fast Food Restaurants such as Mcdonald’s can be around $6.50
  • Domestic Beer is usually $1.00- 2.00
  • Imported Beer costs around $3.00
Super Markets
  • A Gallon of Water $0.90
  • Liter of Milk $1.80
  • Can of Coke or Pepsi around $0.60
  • 1kg of chicken fillets $4.80
  • 1kg of inexpensive cut of meat costs around $5.00
  • 8-pack of eggs $1.60
  • Beer is one of the few items that can get a little expensive in El Salvador, this is due to the high taxes placed on beer, a 6-pack of imported beer can range from $8-9
Transportation
  • One Way ticket for a bus ride in the city is $0.30
  • Taxi/Uber ride within the city $3.00-5.00
  • Gasoline prices vary but in general, the price for gasoline in El Salvador is considered one of the cheapest in the region.
  • Car rentals vary depending on location, company, and type of car, generally you can rent a car from 8.00 for an affordable/ Compact model such as a Kia Picanto to 49.00 a day for an SUV.
Utilities
  • Similar to most other countries, Electricity cost will be by far your most expensive utility in El Salvador, with costs ranging from $60.00 up to $200.00 per month
  • Cooking gas $30.00
  • Water Bill will be around $30.00 per month
  • Internet prices vary upon speed and company buy generally they go for around $30- $75.00 per month.
Safety

In the past you may have heard some bad things about el Salvador when it comes to safety or that it might be dangerous, however, El Salvador has changed a lot in the past few years, and the homicide rate has fallen by around 90%. 2021 became the safest year in the recorded history of El Salvador, and with the new “Territorial control Plan” rolled out earlier this year, 2022 has already seen major improvements in safety over the last year, including having over 100 days without a single homicide this year alone, therefore, 2022 it’s on its way to becoming the safest year in El Salvador’s history

The climate in El Salvador

El Salvador has a tropical climate, made up of a rainy and dry season, the rainy season goes from May to October and is characterized by warm weather with occasional rain, while the dry season goes from November to April, and is usually hot and humid, one of the greatest advantages in El Salvador is that the temperatures don’t vary too much, they stay around 23C/73F reaching its highest temperature around noon and slowly cooling down during the evening, make sure to wear a blanket because it can get pretty cool at night.
